Our 9/11 First Responder: Honoring Dave Eck of Slingerlands Fire Dept.
The events of September 11th, 2001 changed the world as we knew it. The terrorist attacks transformed us, leaving a lasting impact on all New Yorkers and the people of our nation. One of them is Dave Eck who was a dedicated firefighter of 20 years in the Slingerlands Fire Department before joining our team at The Anderson Group.
Alongside his brother Bill, the former chief of the Slingerlands Fire Department, Dave was sent to the World Trade Center after 9/11 as part of the search and rescue team. The events of 2001 still affect him today, but he was able to draw some positives of the situation as well.
Before his brother Bill’s passing in 2021, the firefighting brothers would meet every September 11th to remind themselves of their shared experiences from their time at Ground Zero. He recalls: “We’d meet every September 11, no matter what, to each have a peanut butter and jelly Uncrustable. It was like a surf-and-turf dinner when we had one given to us by the Salvation Army on a hot day after just coming off the pile–it’s all about the little things.”
We are so proud to have Dave on our team and have immense gratitude for his and all the first responders’ service to our nation.
If you would like to give back and make a difference yourself, we encourage you to consider donating to the Slingerlands Fire Department and/or Tuesday’s Children, an organization formed following 9/11 to support families forever changed by terrorism, military conflict or mass violence.
